LCD vs. Plasma Televisions, Plasma TV Reviews, LCD TV Reviews

By Sergeant Ryan Adams

There have been many great battles fought. The fall of Saigon, the Battle of the Bulge, the Storming of Normandy Beach to push back those horrible Axis monsters. Those battles have gone and passed, but there is still a battle raging on today…the battle of LCD vs. Plasma. How many people will be forced to spend money on the wrong television before those men in the White House tell them which is the better buy. Well I have taken the initiative and will tell you myself which technology should warrant your hard earned money. I will break it down in a series of skirmishes, before deciding the ultimate victor. Let the war commence!

Battle One: Contrast

One of the most important features of any television is the contrast ratio. This measures the difference between the darkest black, to the whitest white images that a television can produce and is a very important factor in any television purchase, but especially when purchasing any type of flat panel television. In this area, plasma televisions have been able to achieve a 3000:1 contrast ratio, something that is almost unheard of in the business. Compare this to the 1000:1 ratio produced by the top performing LCD monitors, and you can see that the clear winner of this battle is the boys on the plasma front:

Winner: PLASMA (decisive)

Battle Two: Screen Life

This is arguably the most important thing to look for when purchasing any TV. Just as you don’t want your soldiers quitting in the middle of an important and decisive battle, you don’t want your television to quit in the middle of an episode of Desperate Housewives. In this category, LCD TVs generally last for upwards to 60,000 hours, where plasmas go AWOL after just 30,000. This is decisive factor and has turned the war in favor of the LCD battalions.

Winner: LCD (decisive)

Battle Three: Burn In

Do you want to be careful when you watch TV? Do you want to sit there and think that at any second you could possibly ruin your new investment, destroying the screen for life? Of course you don’t and that is why if you use your TV for any sort of static function (such as playing video games or watching Fox News for 20 hours at a time) then you better buy an LCD monitor as plasmas are prone to burn in.

Winner: LCD (decisive)

Round Four: Brightness

Although counterintuitive in real life battle situations where you are trying to stay incognito, constantly attempting to sneak up on unsuspecting enemy soldiers, brightness is better in this skirmish. When measured on comparable standards, the winner of this battle is easily the LCD war machine. By achieving a rating of 450 cd/m2, the LCD monitors beat the plasmas 100cd/m2 so badly that there may be no way for them to recover.

Winner: LCD (decisive)

Round Five: Viewing Angle

This is a quick and easy victory for the LCDs as their number of 170 degrees is slightly better then that of their enemy’s 160 degrees making placing them in the room much easier as they can be seen clearly from almost every angle.

Winner: LCD

Round Six: Durability (the last battle)

In a last ditch effort to save their sorry hides, the plasma war mongers try to show their durability by mounting an almost Kamikaze attack on the LCDs. Unfortunately for them, their fragile tubes break halfway down the field and the lighter and more resilient LCDs merely laugh and cheer their ultimate victory.

Winner: LCD (decisive)

So the battle is over and the war was more on sided then poor old Custer’s Last Stand. The brave and determined LCDs stemmed an early and brief plasma advantage to become the winner of the television war. Just keep in mind that no matter what side you decide to pick, you can find great prices and reviews from Newbie.net.

Overall Champion: LCD (decisive)
